Dear Parent/Guardians,
Welcome
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to the third grade. My name is Mrs. Williams and I will be your child’s Math teacher for the fall 2019-2020 school years. Third grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. This is a year of important transitions, as well as one in which acquisition of new skills is accelerated. I hope to make your child’s learning experience a fun and exciting one, and I hope to instill a love of learning that will last throughout your child’s years of schooling. Attached you will find brief description of the curriculum, supply list, and other useful information. Please read all this information carefully.
Curriculum
Math:
Eureka Math
Test/Assessments
Math quizzes will be given on Fridays. In addition, 3rd. grade math unit assessments will be given as we complete a topic/ unit.
Homework
Homework will be given nightly. Homework allows the parents to know what we are doing in class and what skills your child may need extra help with. Expect an average homework time of 1 to 1.5 hours Monday through Friday for my class. Homework will be graded.
Late Work
Late work will be marked down one grade. No late work will be accepted after one (1) day past the original due date. Grades are based on performance and not ability. If an assignment is not turned in it counts as a zero on the report card average. This greatly affects grades. Please encourage your child to keep up with the work daily. Third grade is a big change and we need to work together to guide your child to learning independence and responsibility. Grades may be checked online by visiting “parent portal”.
Grading
Third grade students will be graded using the following scale:
90%-100% A
80%-89 % B
70% -79% C
60% 69% D
59% -50 % F
Third graders will receive “tradition” letter grades on their report cards and have grade point averages this year. Please take the opportunity to review new grading scale with your student.
